Leadership Development Year 24/25

The LDY is an 11 month programme of leadership development, ministry experience and theological training. You'll be working alongside the team at St. Mark's in Grimsby and collaborating with our partner churches further afield.

St. Mark's was relaunched in November 2021 by a team sent by St. Swithin's, Lincoln and recruited from across the country, as part of the Diocese of Lincoln's strategy for revitalising the urban centres of Lincolnshire. We are already a growing church, with a variety of ages meeting for Sunday worship and mid-week groups and missional events. Our vision is to see Grimsby reached with the love of God, a GREATER LOVE. To see the Church released to live for Jesus, a GREATER LIFE. As we go to see lives and communities transformed, a GREATER GRIMSBY. As a Leadership Development Year Student you will be part of the staff team of St. Mark's on our mission to see people encounter the LOVE of God, learn to LIVE more like Jesus and GO in the power of the Spirit.

Our LDY involves apprentices being placed with the church for 3.5 days a week where you will have an opportunity to focus in one main ministry area which you will serve in but with the opportunity to gain experience in a couple of other areas too.

Alongside gaining mission and ministry experience, you will also access leadership and theological training to help you grow as a leader and as a disciple of Jesus.

The LDY is open to anyone, there is no age limit, however we do ask for a level of commitment over the 11 months to enable you and us to benefit from our learning and practice together.

This year, we have the following streams available:

Rising Generations

The Rising Generations leader will get stuck into our work with kids and youth at St Mark’s. You can choose to focus on either kids or youth, but expect to be thrown into a bit of both throughout the year, including working in local schools.

You’ll be working with the team to both continue and develop the discipleship and evangelism within the Rising Gen’s ministry. It’s a people focused role, spending time with young people, encouraging and mentoring them in their faith. It will involve planning and delivering Sundays as well as activities and events during the week, including opportunities for outreach.

There will be opportunities to own a project/event from start to finish, work with and develop teams, and try new things perhaps outside of your comfort zone.

Worship and Production

There are loads of opportunities for worship and production as we grow services and prepare to plant elsewhere in the area. In this role you’ll work with the team to build on existing ministry and explore new opportunities for mission and growth through our style of worship and use of production as a tool for mission.

There are opportunities for worship through music, sound mixing, visual support, photography, social media and more and depending on your skill set, they’ll be opportunities to work alongside other churches in our network and churches we are helping to resource to develop worship and production for themselves.

18-25’s ministry (students and young adults)

Do you have a heart for evangelism with 18-25’s? Then this role could be for you.

You’ll get stuck into college chaplaincy, student alpha, and have opportunities and permission to come up with new and creative ways to work with students, especially in the local college.

You’ll get the opportunity to develop in confidence and the capacity to run with an idea/project and be able to think ahead, considering succession planning - drawing in, envisioning and working with the wider ministry team and young adults who are already a part of St. Mark’s

Community Bridge Builder

The community bridge builder is all about connection between St Mark’s and the community in Grimsby. This is a key role as we continue to establish ourselves as a Key Mission Church on the South Ward of Grimsby, and build partnerships with local people and organisations.

The role will develop through the year as you get stuck into projects, innovating to tie in evangelism and building relationships into what we already do and include developing a team to deliver the project. The role will also include attending local community forums and bringing a church and Christian voice to the table.

You could also have the opportunity to do some indepth community research, looking at social justice, working with other team members to find out more about the actual needs within our community and how we might meet them.

General ministry experience

If you are looking for a broader experience of mission and ministry through the life of the church, this could be for you. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a different ministry lead each term, including alongside lay and ordained leaders, allowing you to grow in your discipleship and practical experience. You’ll be challenged to explore and develop your God-given gifts and abilities and contribute to growth in the church by developing projects that enable us to fulfil our vision.
